BLACK AND WHITE.
Add the name of Tony Joe White to that list of Artists... He is not just another singer...
He sounds like only "Tony Joe White"...
He is not a copy of any other artist and as you listen to this album, you will hear and feel the artistry of
this young entertainer. Instantly you will be aware that he is a member of the "Now Generation".
Today when we think of singers or entertainers we think of soul... SOUL...
Oh yes, he is unmistakably soulfull... or FULLOFSOUL! However, here is proof that soul, spelled S.O.U.L., doesn't come wrapped in color...black or white. When the good Lord said, "help yourself to some soul"...
Tony Joe took a second helping and now it is being returned to them thats got it and them that ain't.
By the way, even if you are one of them that have or have not... slap this piece of wax on a turntable sit back and be rejuvenated... from the first cut of this LP to the very last, you will hear, feel and find soul... be introduced to one of the new talents, unique in his sound on guitar, harmonica as well as vocal.
With so much talent I almost forgot to mention that Tony Joe is also a profilic writer... one side of this album he penned. White writes what he feels, what he sees, what he thinks, and not withstanding, what he's lived. He says it with every word that he delivers from his lips. Tony says he treis to perfect what people want to hear and people like to be reminded of reality. So he gives them what they want. "Willie and Laura Mae Jones" is one of the many songs written and sung bu Tony Joe that depics the now happening... "Soul Francisco", "Aspen, Colorado", "Whompt Out On You", "Don't Steal My Love" and "Polk Salad Annie", prove the artistry of this talent.
Amazing should be the word to discribe Tony Joe White... "Little Green Apples" gets the Tony Joe White treatment... so does "Look Of Love"... Johnnie Taylor's million seller of "Who's Making Love" gets the folk treatment... and Slim Harpo's "Scratch My Back" gets its back scratched with the treatment Tony gives it. "Wichita Lineman" is proof that Tony Joe is here to stay... You might say that this is just the first edition on TONY JOE WHITE... Black And White.
Allen Orange, 1968.
