Dangerous Eyes review
Tony Joe White was a revelation with the swamp country-rock. Tony Joe White was a revelation with the swamp country-rock of Polk Salad Annie, Old Man Willis and Groupy Girl, but it didn't last long and het went into a fallow period. This CD combines two of his weaker albums, Eyes 1976 and Dangerous 1980. From the first notes of Eyes, Tony Joe White becomes Barry White and the results are dreadful. Dangerous is still on a disco kick but is somewhat better, though with song titles like Do You Have A Garter Belt you mightn't think so. Tony Joe introduces Our Day Will Come with the words, "I know that people say you're too young for me, but all I know is if we hold on to this feeling and these dreams, we're gonna make it, baby." Oh, shut up. (Proper Distribution) |
