Tony Joe White: The Heroines
Long-awaited new album from teh gravel-voiced Louisiana legend.

Still best known for his top-ten single Polk Salad Annie, Tony Joe White's highly anticipated bew recording - his first studio album since 1998 - is both a hommage to, and a collaboration with, some of his favourite female artists, as he's invited some of country's finest voices to share the mike.
Emmylou Harris helps out on Wild Wolf Calling Me, with the sublime Can't Go Back Home finds White trading lines with Shelby Lynne. There's even a rare appeareance from Mrs. Waylon Jennings herself, Jessy Colter. Perhaps best of all is the stunning Closing In On The Fire, which features a rousing performance by the inimitable Lucinda Williams.
The quality of White's songwriting is striking throughout, perhaps to be expected from a man whose offerings has been recordede by the likes of Elvis, Ray Charles, Dusty Sprinfield at all.
