Tony Joe
has three strings to his (artistic) bow and a target to aim at. With these strings he aims to shoot his target, but this can become annoying for his public. Tony sings with a rather sexy voice, that is string number one. The second string are the lyrics, nicely fitting in with his image of a (pale) diamond in the rough (pale as he is whiter than white). And the third string, according to my view his best shot, is his guitar playing. Not outstanding, but very skillful and precise. Tony Joe excels in the short 'lick', a musical phrase which is repeated numerous times. He pierces his licks in between, in a sharp and cutting manner, I believe they are the reason I have loved his music for so long. But as mentioned, he repeats indefinitely.
