Popmusic: Tony Joe White
The best part of Uncovered is that Tony Joe White remains in the same atmosphere the length of the entire record. It is pure swamp-blues, full of soul, from the South of the United States. Very subdued and sweltering. The cd mainly consists of new work, but also some revised versions of songs that are thirty years old (Rainy Night In Georgia). Following Heroines, where White seeked the assistance of a bunch of women, it now is the turn for men like Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, J.J. Cale, Waylon Jennings and Michael McDonald. White, aged 63 already, sounds weary. He hardly raises his voice, which makes the spell all the more oppressive.
End of October he will visit the Netherlands for 3 performances.
